Cleanliness Testing Methods

2025-11-18

Methods for determining cleanliness are crucial for process control, quality assurance, and failure analysis; they encompass the detailed procedures used to obtain cleanliness data on the subject under investigation, such as various mechanical devices and electronic components. When assessing cleanliness, sampling requirements must be met. The basic sampling criteria depend on the number of samples and their sampling locations. For parts with larger volumes and greater surface areas that exhibit lower cleanliness levels, the number of samples should be correspondingly reduced. Parts should be randomly selected from the production line, and both the sampling process and subsequent inspection procedures must prevent any contamination of the parts. During cleanliness testing, three key conditions must be ensured: first, the testing environment must be clean, with a level of cleanliness appropriate for the specific testing requirements; second, the testing personnel must wear clean clothing and headgear and keep their hands clean; and third, all instruments and equipment used must also be clean.
