The establishment of specifications and standards for component cleanliness testing involves these five issues

The cleanliness of the surface of the part has a very important impact on the reliability and durability of the part, and the pollutants on the surface of the part are mostly solid particles such as chips, burrs, cast sand, welding slag, and abrasives. These pollutants will accelerate the wear of parts, block the orifice of parts, make parts lose their conditioning function, enter the void of the spool, make the valve core stuck, strain the inner surface of the cylinder, increase the leakage or reduce the output force, damage the oil distribution plate of the pump, and burn out the pump.

The cleanliness detection system of parts uses precision microporous filter membrane to vacuum the fluid to be measured, trap the particulate pollutants in the fluid on the surface of the filter membrane, and then use the color scale colorimetric method, paired weighing method, microscope observation method, instrument analysis and other methods to analyze the size, quantity and composition of the particulate pollutants contained in the fluid. According to the nature of the fluid, the size of the particles and the purpose of analysis, filter membranes with different properties and pore sizes are selected.

The establishment of specifications and standards for part cleanliness testing touches on five processes and issues: part scale, contaminant properties, necessary cleaning, cleaning process, and cleanliness testing and verification.

Above all, the size of the part is the basis for designing a new cleaning process. Cleaning equipment manufacturers should work with customers to understand the size tolerances and data composition of the part. In particular, the data cannot be ignored, because chemicals will corrode during cleaning, and physical cleaning will cause thermal expansion and change the size of the part.

The second issue is the nature and amount of contaminants that need to be cleaned, which is an important variable in cleaning operations. Before cleaning, the cleanliness of parts should be checked, such as weighing with a balance to detect the amount of pollutants, using active cleanliness to detect the size of particles by scanning microscope or laser particle size profiler, shape and nature.

Comprehensive cleanliness testing to confirm the nature and quantity of pollutants is not only a spot check of the results, but also a reasonable and correct cleaning process for parts. For example, what cleaning agent is used in the washing machineIf we do not know what pollutants need to be cleaned, the selection of cleaning agent may be blind, and the result may not be cleaning, otherwise the parts will be damaged due to excessive cleaning.

Once these issues have been addressed, it is time to confirm the cleanliness of the benchmark level. Cleaning is often unnecessary. The cleanliness of car parts does not need to be the same level of cleanliness as surgical tools. Find out when pollution starts impacting performance and start working from there. Setting slightly higher cleanliness is necessary, but setting too high is inefficient and wasteful.
